Certificate III in Production Horticulture
SMGT has an exciting opportunity for a Trainee to work on a large-scale Pistachio orchard in the Merbein area. The successful candidate will be exposed to all aspects of farming, maintenance, harvesting, machine operation and irrigation.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and willing to work additional hours where needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Duties include:
- Maintain orchard using machinery, fertilisers and chemicals.
- Prepare, establish and manage all areas of the property as directed.
- Spraying of chemicals as directed
- All aspects Machinery Operation
- Irrigation installation and maintenance
- Proactive and forward thinker
- Able to work in a team and independently.
- Daily task to be completed as directed by Supervisor.
- Driver’s Licence essential
- Interested in practical and mechanical work.
- Able to undertake manual work.
- Must be punctual, polite and reliable at all times.
- Able to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Possess a genuine interest and desire to learn on the job.
- Display sound oral and written communication skills
- Possess a helpful and courteous manner at all times.
- Competent literacy and numeracy skills
- Highly organised, with great attention to detail
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
There will also be a Schooling component, which will need to be completed as part of the apprenticeship. The successful applicant will be placed on a three (3) month probation period.
