Position Requirements

  • Develop working relationships with Clients, Community groups, and the general public.
  • Be guided by and work closely on a day-to-day basis with Dental Clinicians, Dental Students and/or Student Demonstrators.
  • Work under the guidance of Dental Clinicians, Dental Students and/or Student Demonstrators to learn and develop the skills as a Dental Assistant by:
  • Keeping up to date with all Dental Assistant Trainee theory, assignments, on the job training requirements and all relevant assessments, at all times.
  • Performing within the bounds of the Australian Dental Association standards and guidelines for Dental Assistants.
  • Practising within the Bounds of the Community Dental program as outlined in the Dental Health Services Victoria, Community Dental Program handbook.
  • Practicing in accordance with SCHS policy and procedures that reflect the philosophy and objectives of the Service.
  • Assisting in a range of administrative functions associated with the efficient delivery of dental services when required.
  • Developing knowledge of relevant Radiation licensing, medication administration and infection control standards so that compliance with procedures in delivering Dental care can be ensured.
  • Attending relevant meetings, forums and seminars as directed.
  • Developing the skills to be able to provide quality dental care, support and education to Clients and their careers.
  • Developing the skills and knowledge with the aim of being able to communicate with a variety of people on matters relating to client treatments and future needs.
  • Participation in team meetings, service planning and evaluation and other groups to assist with the effective and efficient provision of services.
  • Working within the sterilisation department to gain a thorough understanding of instrument sterilisation processes that ensure equipment and infection control standards are adhered to.

Participating in staff development activities.

Personal Requirements

Applicants must have a mature outlook and be flexible and adaptive to different work environments.  Evidence of knowledge of the chosen occupation gained through work experience and/or research is essential.

 In all activities successful applicants will be able to demonstrate a responsible and determined nature regarding themselves and others working with or around them.
